Connect Your Xero Account

Connecting Myaccountant to Xero allows you to export payroll journals directly to your Xero general ledger, keeping your accounting data in sync without manual data entry.

Prerequisites

  • An active Xero subscription with the organisation you want to connect.
  • Admin or standard user access to the Xero organisation.
  • Your Myaccountant account must be on a paid plan.

Steps to Connect

Step 1: Open Integrations

  1. Navigate to Settings > Integrations from the Myaccountant dashboard.
  2. Locate the Xero card in the available integrations list.

Step 2: Initiate the Connection

  1. Click the Connect button on the Xero card.
  2. You will be redirected to the Xero login page.
  3. Log in with your Xero credentials.

Step 3: Authorise Access

  1. Xero will ask you to select the organisation you want to connect. Choose the relevant organisation from the dropdown.
  2. Review the permissions Myaccountant is requesting (read and write access to your chart of accounts and journals).
  3. Click Allow Access.

Step 4: Confirm Connection

  1. You will be redirected back to Myaccountant.
  2. The Xero card on the Integrations page will now show a Connected status with the connected organisation name.
tip

If the connection fails, ensure you are logging into the correct Xero organisation and that pop-up blockers are not interfering with the OAuth redirect.

Disconnecting Xero

To disconnect Xero:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations.
  2. Click the Disconnect button on the Xero card.
  3. Confirm the disconnection. Existing journal entries in Xero will not be affected.

Next Steps

After connecting, you should map your Xero ledger accounts to ensure payroll journals post to the correct accounts.
