Map Xero Ledger Accounts
Account mapping ensures that payroll journal entries are posted to the correct accounts in your Xero chart of accounts. You must complete this mapping before exporting pay runs.
Steps to Map Accounts
- Navigate to Settings > Integrations and click on the Xero card.
- Click Map Accounts (or Account Mapping).
- You will see a list of payroll categories that need to be mapped to Xero accounts:
| Payroll Category | Typical Xero Account |
|---|---|
| Wages & Salaries Expense | Wages and Salaries (expense) |
| PAYG Withholding | PAYG Withholding Payable (liability) |
| Superannuation Expense | Superannuation Expense (expense) |
| Superannuation Liability | Superannuation Payable (liability) |
| Net Wages Payable | Wages Payable (liability) |
| Leave Liability | Employee Leave Provision (liability) |
- For each payroll category, select the corresponding Xero account from the dropdown. Myaccountant pulls your Xero chart of accounts automatically.
- Click Save Mapping.
tip
If the correct account does not appear in the dropdown, create it in Xero first, then refresh the mapping page in Myaccountant.
Best Practices
- Map accounts before your first pay run export.
- Review mappings at the start of each financial year or if you restructure your Xero chart of accounts.
- Use separate accounts for superannuation expense and superannuation liability to maintain clear reporting.
